Peter Obi Challenges Nigerians to Expose Any Corruption Case Against Him

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has challenged Nigerians to scrutinise his record and publicly expose any corruption or criminal allegation against him, saying he is prepared to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if any such allegation is proven.
Obi issued the challenge in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a town hall meeting tagged “Obi Talks Nigeria,” as political activities and scrutiny of presidential aspirants intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said Nigerians should independently verify his personal, educational and professional background and that of his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
“I want to give every Nigerian the opportunity to know who I am. Both of us have presented our backgrounds, from our dates of birth to our schools, education and all, to the people. You can go and verify our backgrounds worldwide, anywhere,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor also referred to his ongoing legal dispute with former campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, who, according to Obi, had claimed to possess information about him that could shock Nigerians.
Obi said the matter had been taken to court and challenged Okonkwo, as well as any other Nigerian, to bring forward evidence of any wrongdoing against him.
“We have sued somebody in court. He said he knows something he can say and the people will be shocked. I said I want you to say what people will be shocked about. And I’m challenging every Nigerian: if there is anything that you know I have done that is wrong, say it out now,” he said.
He argued that anyone seeking to lead Nigeria must be subjected to a transparent process and have his or her record open to public scrutiny.
Obi also said political titles should reflect the character and performance of those who bear them, insisting that the title “His Excellency” should be earned through excellence.

‘I’m Ready to Die for My Vote’
The former Anambra governor also repeated his earlier declaration that he was prepared to risk his life to protect his vote in the 2027 presidential election.

He urged Nigerians not to allow intimidation or fear to prevent them from defending their votes at polling units.
Obi also warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, against any attempt to manipulate election results, particularly through the electronic transmission and result-management system.
He said the number of voters at polling units would make it difficult for officials or anyone else to intimidate citizens if Nigerians collectively stood up to protect their votes.
“No one will scare us anymore at the polling station. If you go to any polling booth today, you will see the most officials, and there will be five of them. On average, there are 40 to 50 voters. Five people can’t scare or control 50 people. This time, we will all save our country together.”
On the electronic transmission of results, Obi expressed concern about possible attempts to interfere with the IReV system, while calling for stronger measures to prevent technical problems from undermining the electoral process.

He said Nigerians must remain vigilant and ensure that technical failures or deliberate interference do not compromise the credibility of the 2027 election.
Obi’s comments come as political parties and presidential aspirants intensify mobilisation and public engagement ahead of the 2027 elections, with transparency, electoral credibility and the integrity of candidates expected to remain major issues in the contest.
I also removed the unsupported assertion that “no one has ever come forward to accuse” Obi and the description of him as a “self-made billionaire”, because those statements require independent verification and could unnecessarily weaken the credibility of the report.
