Jigsimur Plus to Challenge Ruling on Label Bottle Design

Jigsimur Plus Nigeria Ltd. is heading to the Federal High Court to challenge a ruling by the Patents and Designs Registry in Abuja over the ownership of its label bottle design.
The company, in a public notice issued through its legal representatives and dated September 4, 2026, said it disagreed with the administrative decision and had instructed its lawyers to seek judicial review and appropriate remedies.
The dispute involves Jigsimur Plus Nigeria Ltd., Jigsimur SA (Pty) Ltd. and Cleansimur International Ltd.

Jigsimur Plus said the decision of the Patents and Designs Registry should not be interpreted as a final determination of the parties’ rights, stressing that the matter had not been conclusively determined by a court of competent jurisdiction.
ā€œJigsimur Plus Nigeria Limited strongly maintains that the decision was reached in error and without proper appreciation and consideration of the relevant facts, documents, rights and circumstances,ā€ the company said.
According to the company, it is exercising its legal right to challenge the ruling within the prescribed period and will seek appropriate orders to preserve the position of the parties pending the determination of the appeal.
It therefore cautioned against reports suggesting that the ownership dispute had been finally resolved or that the administrative ruling was already a final and enforceable judgment.
The company urged its customers, distributors, business partners and members of the public to disregard reports portraying the dispute as conclusively settled.
It stressed that the ruling of the Patents and Designs Registry should not be confused with a final judgment of the Federal High Court or any other superior court of record.
Jigsimur Plus expressed confidence that the relevant facts, documentary evidence and legal issues surrounding the disputed label bottle design would receive proper consideration when the matter gets before the court.
The company also appealed to the media and the public to exercise restraint in reporting the dispute and avoid statements that could suggest that the matter had already reached a final judicial conclusion.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the rule of law, saying it would pursue the dispute through the appropriate judicial channels.
The company said the notice was issued to clarify the status of the matter and protect the interests of its customers, distributors, business partners and the general public.
