Evang. Ebuka Obi of Zion Ministry Under Pressure to Marry
The marriage question surrounding popular evangelist and Spiritual Director of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, Evangelist Chukwuebuka Anozie Obi, has resurfaced after his parents publicly appealed to him to settle down and start a family.
Born on October 16, 1980, Ebuka Obi is currently 45 and will turn 46 next month. The Imo State-born evangelist has built a large following through his ministry, which has branches in Nigeria and abroad.
The renewed public discussion followed comments by his mother, Mrs. Veronica Obi, who expressed her desire to see her son get married and give her grandchildren.
In a video making the rounds online, the elderly woman reportedly said she wants Ebuka to find a wife and give her three or four grandchildren before devoting himself fully to his ministerial work.
His father, Chief Ogbuehi Vincent Obi, has also joined the call, urging his son to choose a wife and establish his own family.
Chief Vincent reportedly pointed out that Ebuka is not a Catholic priest bound by a vow of celibacy and therefore encouraged him to marry and have children.
For Ebuka, however, marriage appears to be a matter he wants to leave entirely in God’s hands.
In an earlier interview, the evangelist disclosed that his parents had repeatedly urged him to marry, but said he was unwilling to enter marriage without what he considers clear divine direction.
“I don’t want to dabble into marriage without a direct message from God,” he said in the interview, adding that he had made a vow of virginity until marriage and believed he would eventually marry.
His position has continued to intrigue followers because Ebuka regularly addresses marriage, family reconciliation and marital challenges in his ministry.
He has also spoken extensively about the problems confronting modern marriages, including infidelity, divorce and the breakdown of family values.
The evangelist’s parents have now made their own position unmistakable: they want to see their son married and would love to welcome grandchildren.
The latest appeal has consequently triggered fresh reactions among his followers, with many wondering whether the long-awaited marriage announcement could finally be around the corner.
