Indonesia, Nigeria Deepen Oil Partnership as Investment Talks Intensify

Nigeria is seeking deeper investment and technical cooperation with Indonesia as both countries explore new opportunities in the petroleum and energy sectors.
The move followed a meeting between the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Dr Heineken Lokpobiri, and an Indonesian delegation led by the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Bambang Suharto.
Lokpobiri told the delegation that Nigeria’s oil and gas industry remains open to investors, with opportunities for long-term value creation despite changes in the global energy landscape.
He said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was working to create a more predictable business environment through clearer policies, regulatory stability and measures aimed at improving investors’ confidence.
“Our objective is to harness Nigeria’s natural resources in the best interest of Nigerians and investors,” the Minister said.
He added that the government was positioning the petroleum sector to attract the capital, technology and partnerships required to unlock its potential.
The Minister also invited the Indonesian government and investors to participate in Nigeria’s forthcoming oil bid rounds and take advantage of opportunities across the petroleum industry.
The Indonesian Ambassador, Bambang Suharto, said his country views Nigeria as an important strategic partner and is interested in expanding cooperation through investment, technical collaboration, training and capacity development.
“Indonesia sees Nigeria as an important strategic partner,” Suharto said.
The discussions also touched on exchange programmes being developed through the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna, which Lokpobiri described as a platform for strengthening institutional ties, knowledge sharing and technical capacity.
Both sides expressed interest in building on existing cooperation and developing new areas of partnership in the petroleum and energy sectors.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by Nigeria and Indonesia to strengthen bilateral economic relations, with petroleum investment, technical cooperation and capacity development identified as key areas of mutual interest.
