The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria (CCRN), Lagos Archdiocese, has directed prayer groups and members within the Archdiocese not to invite Abuja-based minister, Bro. IG Newman, to their programmes over an alleged violation of the movement’s guidelines.
In a directive addressed to Deanery and Prayer Group Coordinators, the Archdiocesan Service Committee (ASC) said Bro. IG Newman, who belongs to the Abuja Archdiocese, allegedly operates a private ministry, which it described as contrary to the guidelines of CCRN.
The leadership also warned members against attending programmes organised by or involving the minister until further notice.
The directive followed information received by the Lagos Archdiocese concerning a prayer group programme in the state at which Bro. IG Newman was reportedly invited to minister.
The ASC said such invitations must stop, including invitations allegedly made through parishes or parish priests.
The statement warned that any violation of the directive “in any guise” would attract sanctions and instructed that the information be circulated across CCRN platforms in the Archdiocese.
The full directive signed by the ASC Publicity Secretary reads:
ATTENTION DEANERY AND PRAYER GROUP COORDINATORS
Praise God, Brethren.
May the Peace of God continue to abide with us!
ASC uses this opportunity to direct all leaders of CCRN in Lagos Archdiocese that BRO. IG NEWMAN from Abuja Archdiocese MUST NOT BE INVITED to any Prayer Group programme within the Archdiocese.
In the same vein, some of our brethren who hide under Parish/Parish Priest to invite him must stop it henceforth.
We were informed about the programme organised by him within Lagos Archdiocese. We want to sound this note of warning that no member of CCR should attend such programme.
To set the record straight, BRO. IG NEWMAN operates private ministry which violates the Guideline of CCRN.
Violation of this directive in any guise will attract serious sanctions.
This information should be circulated to all CCR platforms.
Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
ASC PUBLICITY SECRETARY
