Parents and students preparing for the new academic session have been assured that all Federal Unity Colleges across Nigeria will reopen on Monday as scheduled, despite concerns over rising education costs and insecurity in parts of the country.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, gave the assurance, saying the Federal Government has put measures in place to ensure a safe and smooth return to school.

Alausa said the safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the government’s efforts to provide a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.

He disclosed that relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption arrangements and were maintaining heightened vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their immediate environments.

According to the Minister, the coordinated security measures are designed to protect students, teachers, school administrators and other members of the school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.

Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, rely on official information and proceed with preparations to ensure their children and wards return to their respective Federal Unity Colleges on Monday.

He also directed school authorities to maintain close coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to guarantee an orderly and secure resumption.

The Minister called on students, parents, teachers and school administrators to play their part in maintaining a peaceful and supportive school environment, stressing that protecting learners is a shared responsibility.

He said the Federal Ministry of Education would continue to monitor developments and work with relevant authorities to respond to emerging security concerns and ensure uninterrupted academic activities in the colleges.

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s education system and ensuring that children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive learning environment.

The Minister said the commitment aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places education and human capital development among the key drivers of Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development.
