2027: Makinde Begins Battle for Aso Rock, Opens Abuja Campaign Office
The race for Nigeria’s presidency is beginning to gather momentum as Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, formally takes his campaign to the national stage with the inauguration of a presidential campaign office in Abuja.
Makinde, who is seeking to become Nigeria’s next president on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), inaugurated the office as part of efforts to build a nationwide political structure ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The office, located in Abuja, has been named the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Office, reflecting the joint ticket of Makinde and his running mate, Daura.
For supporters of the governor, the opening of the office signals a shift from political consultations to a more organised nationwide campaign aimed at taking his message directly to Nigerians.
In a statement signed by APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the party said the campaign would be built around Makinde’s record in governance and proposed solutions to some of the challenges confronting the country.
“The Makinde/Daura campaign will focus on solutions while presenting the candidate’s policy choices and proven record of governance to the electorate,” the statement said.
The APM also said Makinde’s emergence as its presidential candidate, alongside Daura as his running mate, had attracted new members and supporters to the party.
The party described the ticket as a combination of competence, youthful energy and administrative experience, which it said would be needed to build a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
Beyond the campaign office, the party said Makinde had been consulting political leaders, stakeholders and communities across the country to gain a deeper understanding of Nigerians’ concerns.
According to the APM, the consultations are expected to help shape a national agenda that responds to the everyday realities of Nigerians.
The party said it would soon unveil a comprehensive policy blueprint containing what it described as practical solutions to the country’s economic, security and developmental challenges.
With the campaign now moving into the national spotlight, Makinde faces the task of convincing voters beyond Oyo State that his experience in governing the state can translate into a broader vision for Nigeria.
