Lagos Catholic Charismatic Ministers Call for Prayers for Pope Leo XIV Amid Reports of Planned Surgery

by Innocent Onoh

Catholic charismatic prayer groups in the Lagos Archdiocese have been urged to offer special prayers for Pope Leo XIV amid circulating reports that the pontiff is preparing to undergo surgery.

The appeal was contained in a message reportedly circulated among ministers of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria (CCRN) in Lagos, conveying a request attributed to the Archbishop for prayers for the Holy Father.

ā€œDear brethren, the Archbishop has asked me to appeal to all of you to pray specially for the Pope—for a successful surgery,ā€ the message stated.

The appeal has prompted calls for spiritual support from members of the Catholic charismatic community, with prayers focused on the Pope’s health, the success of the reported procedure and his recovery.

Reports circulating alongside the prayer message claim that Pope Leo XIV disclosed plans to undergo surgery following a recent medical examination.

The reports further claim that doctors discovered a small, localised nodule in one of his lungs at an early stage and recommended its removal.

Catholics around the world traditionally offer prayers for the health and wellbeing of the Pope, particularly during periods of illness or medical treatment.

As the reports continue to circulate, members of the faithful are being encouraged to remain prayerful while awaiting reliable confirmation of the pontiff’s health status and any planned medical procedure.
