Workers receiving their salaries through Unity Bank Plc have been advised to urgently obtain their new account numbers and forward them to their employers to avoid possible payment failures when the September 2026 salary is processed.

The warning, currently being circulated on social media platforms used by workers in some government agencies, asks affected employees to treat the matter as urgent and ensure their new banking details are transmitted through the appropriate administrative channels for updating on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

The development follows the merger of Unity Bank Plc with Providus Bank Limited, creating a new financial institution known as ProvidusUnity Bank Limited.

The merger, which has received regulatory and court approval, brings together Providus Bank’s digital and corporate banking capabilities with Unity Bank’s nationwide branch network and customer base.

The two banks completed the merger after securing the necessary regulatory approvals and court clearance.

The combined institution announced the completion of the transaction on June 26, describing it as a major milestone in creating a stronger and more resilient bank capable of supporting customers, businesses and Nigeria’s wider economic growth.

For Unity Bank customers, however, the immediate implication is the transition to new banking details following the creation of the new institution.

Workers whose Unity Bank accounts are used for salary payments are therefore being urged not to wait until payday before confirming their new account numbers and submitting them to their employers.

The merger also means Unity Bank’s shares have been delisted from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) as the former institution ceases to exist as a separate entity.

Under the approved terms of the transaction, Unity Bank shareholders are to receive 18 Providus Bank shares with a par value of 50 kobo each for every 17 Unity Bank shares held.

The court further approved the transfer of all Unity Bank’s assets, liabilities and obligations to Providus Bank, as well as the dissolution of Unity Bank’s board without winding up the company.
