As classrooms across Lagos reopen for the 2026/2027 academic year, Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has welcomed pupils, students, teachers and school administrators back to school, urging them to approach the new session with renewed hope, discipline and determination.

For thousands of Lagos families, the return to school marks more than the end of the holidays. It is a fresh start for children beginning new classes, teachers taking on new responsibilities and parents once again investing in the education and future of their children.

Hamzat described education as the foundation for building a stronger and more prosperous Lagos, noting that the classrooms of today are where the professionals, entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders of tomorrow are being shaped.

“To every learner returning to school, welcome to a new beginning and new possibilities. Dream boldly, study diligently and believe in yourself. The future you desire begins with what you learn today,” he said.

The Deputy Governor also acknowledged the role of teachers, describing their daily work of teaching, mentoring and encouraging children as critical to the development of the state.

“Every lesson taught, every child encouraged, and every talent discovered takes Lagos another step forward. We celebrate our teachers and appreciate the enormous responsibility they carry,” Hamzat said.

He called for stronger cooperation among the government, parents, teachers, communities and the private sector to ensure that children across Lagos have access to quality, technology-driven and future-ready education.

According to him, providing children with the right learning environment is an investment not only in individual families but also in the future of Lagos.

“Our children are our greatest investment. The Lagos of tomorrow is already sitting in our classrooms today. Let us give them every opportunity to succeed,” he said.

As the new academic year gets underway, the message from the state government is clear: beyond school uniforms, new books and the familiar morning rush, every child returning to the classroom is carrying a future that Lagos cannot afford to overlook.

Hamzat wished learners, teachers, parents and school administrators a peaceful, productive and successful academic year.
