Anambra Mother Arrested After Allegedly Using Hot Knife on Seven-Year-Old Daughter

A seven-year-old girl in Anambra State is receiving medical attention after her mother allegedly subjected her to severe physical abuse, including inflicting injuries on her with a hot knife.
The incident occurred on Sunday in Awada-Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The mother, identified as 32-year-old Ogechi Ofoma, was arrested by the police after concerned neighbours reportedly alerted authorities over the child’s condition.
The victim, identified as Oluebube Ofoma, was allegedly left with severe bodily injuries following the incident.
The intervention of the neighbours brought the alleged abuse to the attention of the police, who moved to arrest the woman and secure the child’s safety.
Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, said the command had commenced collaboration with the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to ensure that the child receives necessary medical care and protection.
Ama commended the neighbours for speaking up and assisting the police in securing the arrest of the suspect.
He assured that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The case has again drawn attention to the need for communities to speak up when children are subjected to suspected abuse, particularly where their safety may be at immediate risk.
