Orji: Otti Needs Capable National Assembly Partner to Consolidate Abia’s Progress
…Promises to Prioritise Teachers’ Welfare, overall Well-being of constituents
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency of Abia State, Hon. Orji Kanu Emmanuel, has commended Governor Alex Otti for what he described as outstanding performance in his first term, saying the governor needs an equally capable representative at the National Assembly to complement his efforts.
Orji, who is also the National President of the Association for Formidable Educational Development, an organisation representing low-cost schools in Nigeria, made the remarks after his delegates successfully engaged stakeholders in Ututu community.
The educationist said the holistic empowerment of teachers and human capital development would form a major part of his legislative agenda if elected.
“Let us look at the welfare of teachers. These are people who burn themselves daily for other people to increase. I just thank God for the government of Alex Otti, who is now playing no less around that. But he needs complementary effort from other people, and this is what I hope to bring to the fore,” he said.
Orji, who described himself as a teacher, said more than 1,000 people had benefited directly from his scholarship efforts, while millions of children had benefited indirectly through his advocacy and humanitarian activities.
He said his experience in education had strengthened his conviction that human capital remained one of the most important resources available to any society.
“The best resource anybody can think about is human capital and, of course, I am an educationist. This is one thing I know I am not going to mince words about.
“There are over 1,000 human beings that benefited from my scholarship. Additionally, over one million children, one way or the other, gained from scholarship as a result of my advocacy and humanitarian efforts. If I am representing a people, a group or somebody at the Federal level, it is going to be massive. I will assure total access to quality education across Nigerian schools and even in foreign lands,” Orji said.
‘Beware of Moneybags’
The ADC candidate also lamented what he described as the monetisation of electioneering in Nigeria, accusing some politicians he referred to as “moneybags” of attempting to use their financial resources to buy their way into political office.
He urged voters in Arochukwu/Ohafia and Abia State to beware of such politicians, arguing that those who spend huge sums to secure political power may eventually prioritise recovering their investments in office.
“Funding the electioneering is what is really worrisome in Nigerian politics, where moneybags who lack the competence and wherewithal to actually bring good governance think because they have the money, they can buy their way through.
“People who truly can bring the needed change to governance are neglected because they do not have all the money to buy their way. If we continue this way, we will continue to experience backwardness.
“This is because these people, after they have spent all the money, will go back to enjoy their loot. They believe they have bought what they are enjoying.
“So, it is time for our people in Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency to make their choice. They have life and death for them to choose. And I urge them to choose life, and Orji Kanu Emmanuel is just that life,” he said.
Orji, who described himself as the most qualified and capable candidate based on his wealth of experience, said he would also champion access to quality education across Nigeria if elected.
Beyond education, he promised to deploy legislation, lobbying and engagement to seek lasting peace for communities in his constituency affected by conflicts involving neighbouring states.
‘We Have a Better Choice’
Orji expressed optimism about his campaign prospects, citing recent engagements with stakeholders in Ututu, Isu and Arochukwu as encouraging.
He also recalled his participation in the Akanu Ohafia Iri Ji Festival, where he said he received royal blessings.
“As it stands, Arochukwu/Ohafia have got a better choice in my person. I will offer them the best representation.
“This is electioneering period; we are engaging stakeholders everywhere. A few days ago, my delegates were with some stakeholders in Ututu community, and the people told us that there was indeed the need for change.
“The truth is that it is looking very good because they have promised that they are going to ensure that the candidate of our choice emerges, and that is me.
“This gladdens me. I have continued to engage people. Last time, I was at Akanu Ohafia for their Iri Ji Festival and the whole process is also flowing. I received the royal blessing.
“As I am touching Ohafia, I have another leg in Arochukwu. It is looking very good now,” he said.
Orji pledged to sustain his mobilisation across other parts of the constituency and continue spreading what he described as his message of hope and purposeful representation.
