The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has assured residents of Igbokoda in Ondo State that their environmental concerns following an aircraft crash in the area will be addressed in collaboration with relevant agencies.
The assurance follows reports of an offensive odour and concerns about possible environmental impacts arising from the incident.
In a statement, the Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the Air Force recognised the anxiety among residents and was taking their complaints seriously.
The Air Force disclosed that search and recovery operations at the crash site were still ongoing, with efforts coordinated alongside relevant partner agencies to ensure the safe and orderly recovery of the wreckage.
It explained that, upon completion of the recovery exercise, it would engage appropriate environmental and public health authorities, alongside other relevant agencies, to assess the situation and determine the necessary measures to address any identified environmental concerns.
The NAF reiterated its commitment to the wellbeing of the affected community, assuring residents that it would work with relevant stakeholders to safeguard public health, safety and the environment.
