LAWMA Begins Evacuation of Waste Black Spot at Cele Bus Stop

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced the evacuation of accumulated waste at Cele Bus Stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, as the agency intensifies efforts to tackle persistent waste black spots across Lagos.

The intervention is aimed at restoring the affected area to an acceptable environmental condition and preventing the waste pile-up from becoming a recurring problem.

Speaking on the development, LAWMA’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Mukaila Sanusi, said the agency had mobilised its intervention team to commence the evacuation after the waste accumulation was identified.

Sanusi said the exercise formed part of LAWMA’s sustained efforts to clear identified waste black spots across the state while also addressing the practices responsible for their recurrence.

According to him, LAWMA would continue to intensify monitoring of identified black spots and deploy appropriate operational resources to locations requiring urgent intervention.

He urged residents, traders, motorists and other users of the Cele axis to stop indiscriminate waste disposal, warning that the recurrence of waste heaps at locations already cleared undermines efforts to maintain a cleaner Lagos.

Sanusi called on residents and businesses operating around the area to use approved waste disposal channels and engage accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators to properly dispose of their waste.

He added that LAWMA would sustain monitoring of the Cele Bus Stop area after the evacuation to discourage fresh dumping and ensure that the gains of the intervention are maintained.

The LAWMA spokesman reiterated the Authority’s commitment to responding promptly to waste management challenges across Lagos, while urging residents to support the agency by adopting responsible waste disposal practices.

He also encouraged members of the public to report emerging waste black spots through LAWMA’s established channels, stressing that keeping Lagos clean requires cooperation between the waste management authority and residents.

The intervention at Cele Bus Stop comes as LAWMA continues its efforts to eliminate persistent waste accumulation points and improve environmental sanitation across the state.
