The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested a truck operator for allegedly dumping refuse at an unauthorised location around Majidun Bus Stop in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The arrest, which took place on Friday, October 2, 2026, followed the interception of a truck discharging a substantial quantity of waste, including construction debris, at the prohibited location.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the enforcement operation was part of the Authority’s sustained efforts to curb illegal dumping and ensure compliance with approved waste management practices across Lagos State.
Gbadegesin warned that the Authority would intensify its crackdown on individuals and businesses involved in indiscriminate waste disposal, stressing that the practice undermines efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
“We will continue to intensify enforcement against illegal dumping, particularly where waste is deliberately taken to unauthorised locations. Waste generators and operators must use approved channels for disposal, as indiscriminate dumping undermines our collective efforts towards achieving a cleaner Lagos,” he said.
The enforcement operation was led by Mr Oladeji Adebayo of LAWMA’s Project WISE Team, which apprehended the truck and its operator for appropriate enforcement action in line with the Authority’s regulations.
LAWMA reiterated its commitment to combining enforcement with public education and stakeholder engagement to promote responsible waste management and environmental protection across the state.
The Authority urged residents, businesses and other waste generators to engage only approved waste management service providers and desist from dumping refuse on roads, drainage channels, waterways and other unauthorised locations.
LAWMA maintained that compliance with proper waste disposal practices remains essential to preventing environmental pollution, protecting public health and sustaining a cleaner Lagos.
