The Fountain University community in Osogbo is set for another four years under the leadership of Professor Olayinka Ramota Karim, following her reappointment as Vice-Chancellor of the institution for a second and final term.

The university’s Governing Council approved Karim’s reappointment at its 67th meeting held on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Her new tenure will begin on March 1, 2027, and run until February 28, 2031.

The decision, according to a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Sheriff Adeyemi Adenekan, followed the Council’s consideration of Karim’s achievements, breakthroughs and initiatives during her first tenure.

For Karim, the reappointment marks another chapter in a leadership journey that has already made her a significant figure in the history of Fountain University, where she became the institution’s first female Vice-Chancellor.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Awa Ibraheem, FCA, described Karim as an energetic, resourceful and goal-oriented leader, while commending her contributions to the development of the university.

The Council highlighted several areas of progress recorded during her first tenure, including infrastructure expansion, accreditation of academic programmes, introduction of new programmes, increased student enrolment, global partnerships and improved staff welfare.

It also pointed to efforts under Karim’s leadership to deepen the university’s Islamic identity.

The Council explained that the decision to renew her tenure was intended to provide continuity and allow the institution to consolidate the gains recorded over the past four years.

Ibraheem and other Council members congratulated Karim and expressed confidence that she would build on the achievements of her first tenure, while praying for divine guidance, strength and favour for her and the management team.

Members of the university’s Senate also welcomed the reappointment, describing it as a vote of confidence in Karim’s leadership.

The university’s management, in turn, expressed appreciation to the Governing Council, while the wider university community welcomed the announcement with celebrations.

Karim’s second and final tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Fountain University will officially commence on March 1, 2027, and end on February 28, 2031.This version brings Professor Karim and the people affected by the leadership change closer to the story, rather than making it read like a formal institutional statement.
