Nigeria has sent a new batch of Technical Aid Corps (TAC) volunteers to Sierra Leone, with the experts expected to use their skills and experience to support the country’s development while deepening the longstanding relationship between both nations.
At a send-off ceremony in Abuja, Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Dr Yusuf Yakub, reminded the volunteers that their assignment goes beyond their individual professions, describing them as representatives of Nigeria in another country.
“Regard yourselves as ambassadors of Nigeria and maintain professionalism and integrity throughout your stay in Sierra Leone,” Yakub told the volunteers.
He explained that the deployment was designed to respond to identified technical and professional gaps in Sierra Leone, stressing that the Nigerian experts were not being sent to compete with local professionals.
Rather, their role is to share knowledge, build capacity and contribute their expertise in areas where their skills are needed.
Among the volunteers are Professor Moses Zaruwa and Modukpe Ajala, who expressed their readiness to take on the assignment and justify the confidence placed in them by the Nigerian government.
For the volunteers, the assignment represents more than a professional posting. It is also an opportunity to build relationships, exchange knowledge and contribute directly to the lives of people in their host communities.
Through the Technical Aid Corps programme, Nigeria has over the years used its pool of professional expertise to support development efforts in other developing countries, while creating opportunities for people-to-people connections across Africa and beyond.
The latest deployment to Sierra Leone is therefore expected to strengthen the bonds between the two countries, with the volunteers serving as a bridge between professional expertise and Nigeria’s broader South-South cooperation agenda.
As they begin their assignment, the volunteers carry with them not only their professional skills but also the responsibility of representing Nigeria through their conduct, competence and commitment to service.
