Kwara Government Clears 10 Years of Outstanding Allowances for State Counsels
After years of waiting for their outstanding entitlements, State Counsels in Kwara State may now have reasons to smile as the state government has approved the payment of accumulated Furniture and Robe Allowances owed to them.
The approval covers outstanding Furniture Allowances dating back to 2016, as well as more recent entitlements, in what the government described as part of its efforts to strengthen workers’ welfare and address legitimate financial obligations.
The Acting Head of Service, Dr. Olufunke Shittu, disclosed this in a memo following a review of demands presented by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter.
According to the memo, the approved payments include the outstanding balance of the 2016–2020 Furniture Allowance, the 2024 Furniture Allowance, and Robe Allowances for 2024–2026.
Dr. Shittu said the approval reflected the commitment of the administration to improving the welfare of workers and ensuring that legitimate entitlements are addressed.
She disclosed that the Commissioner for Finance had been directed to commence implementation of the approved payments.
The Acting Head of Service also commended the state government for prioritising workers’ welfare and approving the settlement of the outstanding allowances due to State Counsels.
For affected workers, the decision could bring relief after years of waiting for benefits that had remained outstanding.
