Two young people from Abia North are set to pursue postgraduate studies in China after securing scholarships facilitated by the senator representing the senatorial district, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The beneficiaries, Dr. Kelechi Nwogu and Uche Paul, are among young Nigerians from different states who have secured opportunities to further their education abroad through scholarship programmes.

Nwogu is heading to Southern Medical University in Guangzhou, while Paul will study at Tongji University in Shanghai.

For the two beneficiaries, the opportunity means more than travelling abroad for academic pursuits. It represents a chance to acquire advanced knowledge and skills that could potentially contribute to their communities and the wider development of Nigeria when they return.

Senator Kalu announced the development in a social media post, saying he facilitated the scholarships for the two Abia youths as part of efforts to support education and human capital development.

He wrote:

“I am pleased to announce that another badge of Abia North youths have departed for China to pursue postgraduate studies under scholarships I facilitated.

They are Dr. Kelechi Nwogu, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou; Uche Paul, Tongji University, Shanghai.

Our investment in education and human capital development continues.”

The development highlights the role scholarship opportunities can play in helping young Nigerians access advanced education and expand their professional prospects beyond the country.

For Nwogu and Paul, the journey to China marks the beginning of another chapter in their academic careers, with the expectation that their new experiences and training will add to the pool of skilled professionals from Abia and Nigeria.
