Three missing as heavy downpour traps residents across parts of Ekiti capital

Three people have reportedly been swept away by rushing water following hours of torrential rainfall in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The victims, said to include an elderly woman, a woman and an Okada rider, were reportedly carried away as heavy rainfall sent large volumes of water through major roads and residential areas.

Some civil servants were also reportedly trapped in their offices as rising water made movement difficult for residents.

Affected areas include Aayemi Garage, Elemi, Ureje, Odo-Ado, Faglo, Poly Road and New Iyin Road.

In a separate incident, a middle-aged man, reportedly intoxicated, was rescued by hundreds of residents after attempting to cross fast-moving water.

As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders and community members were making efforts to locate the three missing persons.

Residents have been advised to avoid attempting to cross roads or waterways covered by fast-moving water and to move to higher ground whenever necessary.

The incident has renewed calls for improved drainage infrastructure and stronger emergency-response measures across Ado-Ekiti to protect lives during periods of intense rainfall.
