Father tied son naked, tied to tree and brutally assaulted him in Abia
A 13-year-old boy in Abia State is receiving medical attention after his father allegedly tied him to a tree, stripped him naked and brutally assaulted him in an incident that has sparked outrage on social media.
The suspect, identified as Uzoma Uwaeme, was arrested by the Abia State Police Command after a video showing the alleged assault went viral.
In the video, the boy was allegedly tied to a tree with a rope, severely flogged and left naked under the scorching sun, with visible injuries sustained during the assault.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, said the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, condemned the incident as a heinous act and a gross violation of the rights of the child.
According to a statement issued by the Command, the suspect will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Police said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation, while the victim has received medical attention and is in stable condition.
The boy is currently under the protective custody of the Police.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other forms of criminality to the nearest Police station.
The Police said protecting vulnerable children requires the collective responsibility of families, communities and law-enforcement agencies.
