Police Arrest, Arraign Ebonyi Content Creator Over Alleged Social Media Claims

A social media post alleging that six families were asked to pay N700,000 each to secure their release from police custody has landed an Ebonyi-based content creator and his alleged accomplice before a Magistrate Court in Abakaliki.

The Ebonyi State Police Command said it arrested and arraigned Justice Ozobi, a content creator, and Isaac Edeh following allegations that they published what the police described as malicious and unsubstantiated claims against the Command and the Commissioner of Police.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, Ozobi alleged in a social media post that the Commissioner of Police collected N700,000 from each of six families to secure their release on bail in connection with a land dispute involving the families and a traditional ruler.

The Command said it promptly issued a rebuttal and challenged Ozobi to provide evidence to support the allegation.

Police said that instead of producing the evidence requested, the content creator maintained his position.

The development has now moved the dispute from social media to the courtroom, where the allegations and the evidence supporting them are expected to be tested through due process.

The Command said the case followed its decision to take legal action over what it considers harmful publications concerning the police and its leadership.

The police statement did not provide further details on the specific charges filed against the two men or the outcome of their arraignment.

As the case proceeds, the allegations against the content creator and his alleged accomplice remain matters for determination by the court.
